Song Review: Songs of Sudbury

This single review is brought to you by orchestral arranger and composer, Kirk Starkey.  A song reflecting loss and tragedy; from sadness comes beauty.  This marks our first review of an orchestral piece, and I honestly couldn’t be more happy about this song.

I love the instrumental picking blended with the drawn out violin as the song starts.  It gets more of an upbeat feel as the song progresses; sounds like something I would hear while wandering through the airport.  I love how authentic everything sounds as well.

The various instruments are recorded quite perfectly, and Kirk’s Philharmonic background shines throughout.  A very relaxing feel, it makes me want to hear more.  I wish that it had more chord or key changes in between to mix it up a bit more.  I do love the breakdown where it becomes mostly violins and the backing bongo.

I have to say I have never heard percussion instruments such as the ones used here in any other orchestral piece – then again, I don’t listen to classical very often.  This song is a refreshing arrangement that starts and ends beautifully.  I would highly recommend checking this out if you are a fan of orchestral pieces.
