On April 22nd, 2016, the world lost a great musical icon.  The artist formerly known as, and then known again as “Prince”, left this life suddenly from of all things; the flu.  Though there’s still speculations swarming around regarding his estate, his possessions, etc., one thing that is certain is he has touched many lives since his career began in the early 1980’s.  There is much to be said about Prince the legend, but mostly I like to let the music speak for him.

One of my favorite Prince songs is from a children’s show called “Sesame Street” that he guest appeared on (as many celebrities do) in 1997.  I first heard this song as a cover on a Limewire download of a 2003 Boston concert of the now famous Matt Nathanson.  He did a cover of Prince’s song, “Starfish and Coffee”, and I fell in love.  Not that I wasn’t a fan of his many other hits; “Purple Rain”, “Little Red Corvette”, “When Doves Cry”, and countless others, there was always something about “Starfish and Coffee” that always made me smile.  And being that this is a food and music blog, it’s even more fitting.

Below you can find the “Sesame Street” video featuring Prince, as well as the Matt Nathanson cover (unfortunately not the one I originally fell in love with, but a similar version).  If you haven’t heard the song, I encourage you listen to it.  I’m sure it will make you smile, as many of Prince’s songs have and will.  There’s no amount of words that can describe the sadness felt from not only me, but millions of other Prince fans.  Just like David Bowie, everyone in some way shape or form is a Prince fan.  May he rest in peace, and his music live as long as his spirit.
