On our day 2 of Sundance Film festival we began our day by going to the BMI Roundtable Discussion on Music, Film, and the creative process. The discussion was about the relationship between a film’s director and it’s composer, the creative process in scoring a film, and how the composers and directors find and choose each other. This is an area of the music industry I was very unfamiliar with. I was really intrigued by the panel, I learned quite a bit. It was really quite interesting to see the variations in how they discovered each other, some were childhood friends, while some were simply fans of the others work who sought the other out. The details of the collaborative process of scoring film were really very interesting, it is definitely something I want to learn more about. I don’t want to bore you with the details of what I learned, however if you ever get the opportunity, I would definitely recommend stopping by a panel like this.
Next we stopped at the Sundance House presented by HP we only made a quick stop but the place was fantastic it contained; a free hot chocolate station, complete with self serve giant marshmallows (the big fluffy hand-made kind not the cheapo bag kind), what appeared to be home made whipped cream, and chocolate sprinkles; a dj spinning great dance music when no one was playing; and most of the time some amazing live performances; and also a nice warm, heated lounge with big comfy white leather couches. While we were in there a brilliant pop-country singer was playing, just her and her acoustic guitar. She went from one song to the next without announcing herself, finally after the applause for a song, I yelled out, “Who are you?” Her name is Jessica Sokolove, I immediately found her on Facebook and requested an interview, I will be interviewing her tomorrow and posting the blog very soon.
Next we went to enjoy another day of ASCAP music cafe. What an awesome lineup!!! I only wish we caught more of these!
