Straight out of Fayetteville, NC, Q Baby is making a name for herself (yes, her) not only in the Greensboro/Carolinas, but has also generated a strong following in New Orleans, LA.  A diverse mix of hip hop, street rap, and alternative rock, Q Baby forces people to listen instead of look and contributes flawless lyrical styles and words to the Hip Hop genre.  Developing a genre all her own, Q Baby is seasoned enough at her rap freestyle to take on the best.

1. “In Dat Thang”

I really like Q Baby’s flow in this song.  It reminds me of Juvenile from back in the day.  The beat isn’t too bad either.  It definitely could use a good mixing engineer on it, but the structure of it is pretty good.  I love the futuristic sound of the synth, and choppy horn stabs too.  Q Baby and Ace Diamond make a good pair and add a unique flavor to this beat.  I’m not too sure what they mean by “thang”, but either way, the songwriting is catchy and is perfect for the southern crowd.  I could totally see all of the NC, Atlanta, and Louisiana “gangsters” blasting this at stoplights and going nuts over this song!

2. “Jiggin’ Out My Body”

Another southern banga, this song expresses the correct way to “jig” and how much fun it can be!  I’m not one for dance moves at all, but I could see a bunch of big bootied southern girls shaking it to this one.  A great song to sing a long to, this remix is energetic and flat out gets you dancing.  Another collabo of different rappers, I love the use of autotune in the add libs, and stripped down hip hop kit and hard trance synth playing as the back beat.  This is definitely a song for the underground club scene; encouraging people to just have FUN!

3. “Most Wanted Popstar”

I love how this song starts out – a big synth sound and a dirty distorted guitar riff and solo – then it sort of falls off a bit.  I would’ve kept that intense energy into the verse, but instead, it just resolves into a laid-back Snoop Dogg type feel.  Q Baby’s lyrics still fit nice, but the beat disappointed me here.  The chorus gets more of the energy back; the distorted guitars enter again and the cynth intnsity is captured again, but then it falls off again in the verse.  Aside from the verses, this song sounds dangerously close to the past hit by Shop Boys, but doesn’t hold the same intensity and energy.  I like the idea of this beat, but I feel like so much more could’ve been done to really make it pop and a “hit”!
4. “Now Watch Me”

This song’s flavor reminds me of a T.I. ballad, with more of a laid back feel.  I love the mix of electric distorted guitar, pitch blended synth, and guitar solo towards the end.  This is a total twist from the previous songs I listened to.  The deep bass and pitched synth really make this song unique.  Q Baby displays a freestyle that’ll get you hype and wanting to blast this everywhere you go.  The hard bass alone is enough to bump this one. My favorite part has to be the guitar solo at the end; it adds a special sparkle to it 🙂
5. “Persona Of A Rockstar”

This beat has a nice latin flavor with catchy claps and synth stabs.  The kick drum could use a little EQ, but it’s not a bad beat at all.   I love the “reggae-tone” like pre chorus beat it switches up to in the middle of the song and Q Baby’s flow in this one is the best I’ve heard so far.  It’s the first display that doesn’t remind me of anyone currently out.  Truly a unique style!  The female vocal break threw me off a bit, but what she was saying flowed enough for me not to get too stuck on it’s “surprise factor”. This song will most definitely get you bobbing your head and singing along by the second time the chorus comes around.  Again, a good mixing wouldn’t hurt, but other than that, this one is exceptionally well produced and arranged.
